"The Sounds of Spelling" helps students develop an ability to spell those English words that are phonetically predictable and
regular. First, the simple consonant-vowel-consonant words are taught. Thus, lists of words such as "can, ran, tan, fan" are first in the program. Then the silent "e" is introduced in lists including words
like "make, fake, take, rake." Next, ending blended consonants are presented in lists such as "pick, sick, kick, lick." The double vowels, which can be difficult, are presented in words like "aid, paid,
maid, raid." Using the vowels and ending consonants previously learned, the beginning blended consonants are given in lists ("bran, brake, brick, braid"). Finally, less common combinations are given using all
the sounds that have been previously learned. |
