The end of March - beginning of April is the time to get your garden and flower beds ready for
planting. Although you already are seeing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers at
your local chain and box stores…resist the urge buy and plant then…it is too early! Our area,
zone 7, still has a possibility of frost up until Mother’s Day.
Things you can plant now include:
Vegetables:
Cabbage
Broccoli
Kale
Brussels Sprouts
Collards
Beets
Onion Sets
Turnips
Greens
Mustard Greens
Peas
Carrots
Lettuce & Spinach.
If you prefer to grow your vegetables by seed, you can start those mentioned above now. Now
is also a good time for you to start tomato, squash, cucumbers, etc. seeds INSIDE.
Pansies are the perfect flower to plant now. They are colorful and will not be hurt even if we do
get frost!
RULE OF THUMB: IF WE DON’T HAVE IT, YOU SHOULDN’T BE PLANTING IT!!
